Deck Details

Full Description

2 Decks of 52 cards each, plus 1 joker in each. Set contains a booklet of selected patience games. De La Rue had merged with Goodalls by this point, so were using Goodalls branding on the cards still. (Note the booklet at the back says, Printed in England by De la Rue) In 1933 WD & HO Wills, one of the founding companies of the Imperial Tobacco Company, devised a special promotion using miniature playing cards as the means by which collectors could exchange completed miniature card packs for other desirable card playing items. Two miniature packs could be exchanged for two packs of “De Luxe” patience cards together with a specially prepared mini-book containing details of a wide variety of patience games. As with all the booklets prepared for this promotion, it is dated 1933. (Information from the WOPC site) The ‘Wills Scheme’ proved so popular, the cards were produced by a number of different companies, including Mardon, Son & Hall, Waddingtons and De La Rue (under Goodalls brand) For further information on these fascinating packs, please visit the following two sites: https://www.wopc.co.uk/uk/mardon/wills-scheme https://www.wopc.co.uk/cards/patience-cards-and-boxes
