Poems by John-Francis Quinonez, Taylor Steele, Jaz Sufi, and LYD Havens. Art by Catherine Weiss. I With I Wasn’t Royalty is a collaborative poetry chapbook disguised as a playable 54 card deck. The project is an exploration of bipolar disorder by four poets and an artist with lived experience of extreme mood states. Each card in the deck features a distinct piece of artwork and one line of poetry. Every time you play with I Wish I Wasn’t Royalty, a new poem is created. A standard card deck contains four suits: hearts, clubs, spades, and diamonds. I Wish I Wasn’t Royalty follows the same format. When placed in order, each suit makes up one full poem about a bipolar extreme mood state–either depression or mania. Each card contains one line of a poem and is designed to be a stand-alone thought and image.
