Frontier Playing Cards is an ambitious project done by Kings Wild Project. The campaign starts with a blank canvas, with nothing only a brief description. In the span of 10 days, Jackson Robinson (with some help from his daughter Claire) illustrates and designs the deck from start to finish, along with the planned add-ons. By the end of the campaign, the decks will be produced once it is fully funded. The decks will be produced by KWPCC – the tuck box features semi-glossy stock with embossing and foiling; the cards feature vibrant cold foiling, either in gold or silver, on some of the details of the artworks.
Frontier Playing Cards tells a story of the Harrison Family as they begin their journey from the township of Chattanooga, Tennessee, as they venture west into New California in search for the promise of gold – it was during a Gold Rush period of 1850s. Along the way, the Harrisons will encounter all manner of characters, but their dream of the West and Wealth will keep their hopes alive.
The Jokers feature the familys dog Bandit: one with a gold star with Bandit being happy that theres gold on the plate; one with a silver star with Bandit being sad theres no gold on the plate. Theres an extra card showing an illustration of a map of United States during that period, marking the journey of the Harrison Family. Theres also a double backer card, which shows the decks back design found in Special Edition.
The back design features an upholstery with red fabric and gold gilded frame. On both sides are the golden cartwheels. The small notation of direction found on the border makes it a subtle one-way design. The customized pips feature silver details for Spades and Clubs and gold details for Hearts and Diamonds. The wooden board on the left and right side shows the index, and they are in different colors, making the deck a four-color suit playing cards. All Aces feature enlarged pips, with Ace of Spades being the most intricate.
Special Gilded Edition features the back design in green along with additional elements: two revolvers crossed with a banner bearing the titles. The cards are gilded with emerald green foil. The tuck box is the customized shape featuring a long outer tuck flap with a slit insert to close the box. Theres the additional elements of two revolvers on top of the golden cartwheel. The golden frame showing the numbering of the deck is on the back of the box, below the slit insert of the flap. Only 200 decks made.
