Kuniyoshi Playing Cards

Utagawa Kuniyoshi (うたがわ くによし, 1798–1861), also known by the art names Ichiyūsai and Chōōrō, was one of the prominent masters of the late Utagawa school of ukiyo-e during Japans Edo period.

This deck showcases iconic ukiyo-e works from Utagawa Kuniyoshis career, including his series on the heroes of Water Margin, samurai illustrations, and various depictions of yokai (supernatural creatures).

Kuniyoshi innovatively incorporated Western techniques, such as anatomical diagrams and perspective, to achieve precise and striking depictions.
